Folkbokföring in Sweden with temporary protection: who can apply in 2026?
For population registration under this route, you must have held a temporary-protection residence permit for at least one year and, in Skatteverket's assessment, be expected to stay in Sweden under such permits for at least 18 months in total from the date the permit was granted. If your first permit was granted on or after 5 September 2026, population registration under this route is normally unavailable. Once the conditions are met, file within four weeks.

What to do step by step

Check the date your first temporary-protection permit was granted

If the first permit was granted on or after 5 September 2026, do not plan on this as the standard route; check a coordination number instead if you need one

Once you have held it for at least one year and the conditions are met, submit the Flytta till Sverige e-service within four weeks

After filing, use the e-service to book a service-office appointment for the mandatory identity check
