NUE instead of UKR in Poland: why it happened and what to do

Short answer

The usual causes: you were outside Poland for more than 30 days; at the border you did not declare war-related evacuation and show Diia.pl; or your PESEL UKR was issued without a passport and your identity was not confirmed by 31 August 2026. If you were in fact abroad for less than 30 days, the status can be restored.

From a general answer to your personal plan

The answer above is free. To apply the information to your status and situation, BESSMERA organises personal steps, document checklists, authority links and progress. Start with a free first step.

What to do step by step

  1. 1

Check your status in mObywatel or Diia.pl and keep a dated screenshot.

  2. 2

Work out the cause: exit and entry dates, passport stamps, identity confirmation.

  3. 3

If you were abroad for less than 30 days, go to the urząd gminy with evidence — the register entry can be updated.

  4. 4

If you really lost protection, ask the urząd wojewódzki whether you can reapply or which other residence basis fits (for example a residence card).

  5. 5

Tell ZUS and your employer once the status is restored: payments and legal work depend on the register.

Important

A new protection application means new conditions: since 31 July 2026 the EU military-obligation requirement applies to men aged 18–60. Check your case before reapplying.
