Men in Germany: temporary protection and military registration after August 2026
Short answer
If you already hold a § 24 permit in Germany, this rule does not require new documents. New applicants aged 23–60 must show lawful departure from Ukraine and compliance with military obligations — for example a Reserv+ document.

What to do step by step
- 1
Check whether yours is a new application: the rule covers applications filed after 31 July 2026.
- 2
Update your data in Reserv+ and generate the electronic military registration document (e-VOD).
- 3
Prepare proof of lawful departure: a passport with the border exit stamp and any deferral or exemption document.
- 4
Bring a printed e-VOD to the Ausländerbehörde: a screenshot is usually not accepted as proof.
- 5
If protection is refused, read the decision: the appeal deadline and any other residence options are stated in it.
Important
A refusal of temporary protection does not mean automatic deportation: the regular asylum procedure with individual review remains. Contact refugee counselling or a lawyer in that case.
