Arrived in Austria from Ukraine: where do you register as a displaced person?

The police perform the first registration of a displaced person. BFA then receives the data and issues the Ausweis für Vertriebene.

Short answer

Choose an official Erfassungsstelle in your federal state, check the reception method and bring your documents. Vienna uses a specific appointment process.

What to do step by step

  1. 1

    Choose an official police Erfassungsstelle.

  2. 2

Check whether phone or electronic appointment is required.

  3. 3

Bring passport and any available civil-status documents.

  4. 4

Register your residential address separately under the Meldegesetz.

  5. 5

After registration, BFA normally receives the data and sends the card.
