A letter from the Ausländerbehörde: what it means for Ukrainians in 2026
Short answer
Most letters are an appointment invitation, a request for documents (passport, photo, proof of address) or a notice about your permit. What matters is the deadline and the document list; if you cannot attend, tell the office before the appointment.

What to do step by step
- 1
Identify the letter type: Einladung / Termin, Anforderung von Unterlagen or Anhörung.
- 2
Note the date, time, address and document list.
- 3
Prepare originals: passport, biometric photo, Meldebescheinigung, current permit.
- 4
If you cannot attend, write or call before the appointment and ask for a new date.
- 5
Keep a copy of the letter and proof that you replied.
Important
An Anhörung from the Ausländerbehörde (for example about revoking a permit) is a serious letter with its own deadline. Consider refugee counselling or a lawyer.
